Places We Have Been

Edisto 2021

Love Love Love Edisto Beach State Park. We are at the beach campground, just a short walk over the dune to the beach. We are in space 59 which has plenty of palm trees for that tropical paradise feel and great places for the hammocks. We also can see the marsh which makes for a pretty sunset foreground.

The town of Edisto is small and in the middle of nowhere. However, there are some great restaurants such as the Old Post Office and Sea Cow. Sea Cow is our favorite so far. The omelets are great at breakfast and the fried shrimp is to die for.

A few tips about camping at Edisto. I recommend the beach campground and reserve a spot in the middle section. They are the odd numbers from 56-71. They are shaded and therefore much cooler than the other spaces. The Live Oak section is more jungly and and with that brings bugs. The wildlife viewing is better, but…bugs. We plan on riding bikes through the trails there later today. Bring water. The tap water is salty, so bring a jug or 2 of water. Also, make sure that all food is put away…even the smallest morsels. There is an active racoon population and they can get into most containers. The dump station is near Live Oak which is up the road a couple of miles. If you need to dump grey water during your stay, you have to tow your portable tank at 5mph up there, which is kind of a pain. We all showered at the bath house, so we were able to conserve.

The beach itself is nice. The water was a bit chilly, but refreshing. The sand is coarse and shelly, but does not hurt your feet. It is interesting watching all the shrimp boats float by during the day. I just sat under our shade and watches the waves come in. I can think of worse ways to spend my day.
