Places We Have Been

COVID-19 Camping

The State of Georgia issued a Shelter In Place mandate fo all non-essential businesses and travel. The Governor stated that exercise is neccessary and left the state parks open. So, we found a great spot about 45 minutes away at Sloppy Floyd’s State Park. The camping area is small, with just 28 spots and it is a short walk to the lake. We had spot #2 which was fantastic. In my opinion, spots 1, 2 and 14 are the best. They have the most unobstructed views of the woods where we were able to observe deer and some different species of birds. Our spot had a trail where it was very easy to walk and collect downed limbs for our campfire. At night, the other campers were very good at following the quiet hours. I was able to just sit outside and enjoy the campfire, stare at the stars and solve the world’s problems.

The lake was very nice with rentable paddle boats and kayaks. Were able to fish for a bit (didn’t catch anything). We were also able to let Olly run free in a field for a but while hiking on one of their trails.

I can’t believe we haven’t been to Sloppy Floyd’s before, being so close to the house. We will return and try to get spot #2.
