Places We Have Been

Camping for Kentuck

No, it isn’t Kentucky…It’s Kentuck! Located near Tuscaloosa, AL, the Kentuck Arts Festival boasts 250 artists in a great setting in Newport, AL. Just 30 minutes away is Deerlick Creek Campground. We were in site 13 (and we checked in on FRIDAY 13th!).

Getting there was difficult. GPS took us over a steep mountain, the cat decided to crap in the litterbox on the back seat, Shadow, threw up, and the cat threw up. So, we had to stop a few times to clean up and fumigate.

We did have some issues upon arrival unhooking the camper due to the driveway slope. So, I backed the camper as far as it would go on the site to get as level as I can. I was able to raise the hitch far enough to remove the weight distribution bars. I, then, pulled forward to our final spot to remove the camper from the hitch.

The campsite had a vew of the river and gorge below, through the trees. It was peacful, relaxing and a wonderful campground. The Alabama fans were a bit vocal during the game, but otherwise, pretty peaceful. We found some great trees to put up our Tentsile Trillium 3-person hammock. The dogs jumped on then picnic table to join us in the hammock.

We went to the festival on Saturday and just rested the rest of the day. Dinner was cooking burgers on the grill. Sunday, we just rested, watched a movie, packed up and came home.

we will be back next year.
